What is the Outlook for the Growth of Online Advertising?

Online advertising has certainly grown by leaps and bounds over the past several years. What began as just a novel idea has now expanded into a billion dollar business and it appears that online advertising methods are around to stay.

When online advertising was first introduced, many business owners were naturally wary of it and were reluctant to veer from proven and traditional forms of advertising. During the last several years, that has changed and in a big way.

Despite dips in the economy, studies have shown that online advertising is continuing to grow. The first two quarters of 2008 revealed a hike of more than 15% over the previous year. Approximately 50% of that growth is attributed to search engine advertisement, display advertisements, such as digital video and banners, comprises another 30%.

So, why exactly is it that online advertising is continuing to grow by such leaps and bounds? The primary reason is control. When compared to traditional forms of advertising, online advertising offers far more control to business owners over their budgets. Online advertising provides business owners with the ability to see exactly how their advertising dollars are being spent and which ads are bringing in the best results. The ability to better manage an advertising budget in any economic climate is something that business owners find very attractive. This provides the ability to cut campaigns that simply are not producing and place those resources on other, better producing advertising tactics.

Another primary reason that so many business owners are making the turn to online advertising is the fact that it is less expensive than traditional forms of advertising. For most business owners, this means that they are able to advertise in a far more cost effective manner. Even with the same amount of money invested in traditional advertising, it would not be possible to gain as much as from traditional advertising as it is from online advertising.

It would certainly seem that online advertising is around to stay for quite some time. Other studies have found that due to the current economic problems, senior executives are already making plans to slash their traditional marketing budgets in an effort to increase their online marketing budgets. This certainly testifies to the fact that online advertising is far more effective than traditional methods of advertising for a less expensive price.
